How to install #67 Stone

Excavate
Strip topsoil to 6-10", with the depth set by traffic and the frost line in your area.

Lay geotextile fabric
Optional but worth it; a woven separator stops the base from migrating into native soil.

Spread base layer
Spread the stone in 2-3 inch lifts and compact each lift with a plate compactor before adding the next.

Crown the surface
Crown the top ~1/4" per foot toward the edges so water sheds.

Keep it on hand
I pour small slabs and steps and keep a couple tons of #67 stone around for base and bedding. Ordered 3 tons this time, clean and consistent size, no clay or dirt in the load. Truck showed up in the window and the driver was careful backing past the fence.

Play area and paths
Used 5 tons of #67 for the play area under the swing set and the paths between the raised garden beds. Kids run around on it fine and it drains quick after rain so no puddles. Driver texted before arriving and dumped it on the plywood I laid out.

Nice size for a driveway
Went with #67 over 57 for the driveway top coat because it is a little smaller and easier to walk on. Ordered 9 tons, spread it with a landscape rake and it settled in within a couple weeks. Looks clean and gray, rolls under tires without kicking up. Delivery driver was friendly and put it right where I wanted.

Good stone, more than needed
Needed pipe bedding for a drainage line and some fill around a patio drain. The 67 stone was perfect for that, small enough to shovel but big enough to drain well. Ordered 2 tons and honestly could have used one and a half, so I have a bit extra sitting under a tarp. Not a big deal.
