Excavate to depth
For pavers, dig 4-6" below finished grade; for masonry, just enough for joints.

Screed for paver base
1" of bedding sand, screeded level, is the gold standard under interlocking pavers.

Don't over-compact
Sand bedding is loose by design; compacting eliminates the leveling cushion.

Sweep joint sand last
Polymeric joint sand locks pavers; sweep dry, then mist to activate.

Clean sand for the sandbox
Built a big sandbox for the grandkids and wanted something finer than the play sand at the box store. One ton of mason sand filled it with a little left for leveling some patio stones. Clean, soft, tan colored, and no dust cloud when the kids dig in it. Delivery was simple, driver called when he was ten minutes out and dropped it on the driveway.

Volleyball court sand
Put down 20 tons of mason sand for a backyard volleyball court and it is exactly what we wanted. Soft on bare feet, fine grain, no rocks or shells, and it leveled easily with a drag. Drains well after rain too. The driver made two trips and lined both piles up so spreading went quick. Kids have not been inside since.

Perfect for paver joints
Used this mason sand to set and sweep in the joints on a 300 square foot paver walkway. Ordered 2 tons. Very fine and clean, screened evenly, and it brushed into the joints with no pebbles to jam things up. It settled in nicely after a few passes with the hose. Driver called ahead and dropped it on the tarp right by the garage.
