How to install Fill Sand

Excavate to depth
For pavers, dig 4-6" below finished grade; for masonry, just enough for joints.

Screed for paver base
1" of bedding sand, screeded level, is the gold standard under interlocking pavers.

Don't over-compact
Sand bedding is loose by design; compacting eliminates the leveling cushion.

Sweep joint sand last
Polymeric joint sand locks pavers; sweep dry, then mist to activate.

Leveled the paver patio
Needed something to fill under and between the base for a small paver patio and this fill sand was perfect. Two tons covered a twelve by fourteen area with a little left for the kids' sandbox. Fine, even texture, no clay lumps, and it wet down and firmed up nicely. The truck handled the tight turn into our cul-de-sac driveway without any trouble.

Pool base came out smooth
Put in an above ground pool this summer and needed a soft, level base. Ordered 3 tons of fill sand. It was clean and free of pebbles, screeded flat with a two by four, and the liner has zero lumps under it. Driver backed right up the driveway and dropped it on the tarp so cleanup was nothing. Would order again for the next project.
