How to install #89 Crushed Stone

Excavate
Strip topsoil to 6-10", with the depth set by traffic and the frost line in your area.

Lay geotextile fabric
Optional but worth it; a woven separator stops the base from migrating into native soil.

Spread base layer
Spread the stone in 2-3 inch lifts and compact each lift with a plate compactor before adding the next.

Crown the surface
Crown the top ~1/4" per foot toward the edges so water sheds.

Filled the joints between my flagstone patio and dressed the beds along the front walk with this crushed stone. Bought 1 ton and had a little left over, which went under the AC unit. Clean gray color, consistent size, no big chunks mixed in. Showed up in the morning window like they said.

Perfect for the dog run

We put 3 tons of #89 down in the dog run along the side of the house and it has been great. Small enough that the dogs do not mind walking on it, and it drains fast after rain so no more mud tracked inside. Driver called about twenty minutes out and dumped it right on the tarp by the gate. We spread it with a rake in one afternoon.

Good stone, dusty pile

Ordered 4 tons for a walking path and to top off the area around our fire pit. The #89 spreads easy and packs down nicely underfoot. Only complaint is there was more dust and fines in the load than I expected, so it looked a little chalky until the first good rain washed it. Delivery itself was smooth.
